Story

On the 6th of November, in one of the greatest cities and greatest races, I am raising donations for the greatest of causes - for Sue Ryder in remembrance of Chris Riley. Cancer causes a lifetime of pain for those that we lose, it leaves a trail of devastation, and this is exacerbated when someone young passes away. Chris fought with positivity, courage, and bravery, and lived his young life to the maximum. He left a lasting impact on everyone - he was loved and adored by his partner Elle, family, and friends. For me, running the New York Marathon in Chris's memory is a no-brainer, it will contribute to his lasting legacy and help ensure that he is forever remembered in our community. It is simply a case of doing what I can to remember Chris, and to "give back" to his Mum Mandy and Stepdad Richard, who together, along with all the other fabulous members of staff at Glusburn Primary School have given my daughter Lucy the best of start in life. This will be second time that I have run the marathon, the first being in 2006 when I was 26. Training has been and continues to be tough, from initially building up my core strength in my legs and back to beginning to run two months ago, I have been able to whip myself into reasonable shape! Chris's school friend Katy Taylor and her business partner Mark Wilkinson have played a major part in raising my fitness levels, and more recently our local village physio Iain Harris has been putting me through weekly torture to strengthen my glutes and address small niggles! Every time I am on my weekly long run, and I begin cramp, feel a little pain, or become tired, I only have to think of Chris and his strength to help me continue! Believe me I won't break any records but what I hope to do is raise as much money as possible for Sue Ryder to help play my part in remembering Chris Riley, who as this wonderful site simply states was "much loved".
